"Taste and see that the Lord is good." - Psalm 34:8

Brian was diagnosed with Guillain-Barré syndrome (GBS) in November of 2023 when he was 50 years old. GBS is a rare autoimmune disorder where the immune system attacks peripheral nerves, often triggered by preceding infections, respiratory illnesses, or viruses. Brian spent 21 days in the Neuro ICU at Rhode Island Hospital. He was on a ventilator for 12 days, then given a trach and feeding tube. He went on to spend 6 months in 3 different hospitals followed by over a year of occupational, speech and physical therapy.
His illness began in his hands and face and though he has experienced significant recovery, he remains partially paralyzed. He still experiences tingling in his fingertips (first symptom), trouble chewing and minor speech issues due to partial lip and tongue paralysis, and significant pain and weakness in his hands and arms. Despite his lingering symptoms, Brian continues to work toward further recovery and refuses to allow his limitations to stop him from living a productive and joyful life.
He remains grateful for every day.
